Q&A with Kendall Chase
1. How did you get into rowing?
I started my junior year of high school after a soccer teammate’s parent suggested I’d be great for rowing. After a few camps, I realized I had the potential to excel in the sport.
2. What has been your greatest sporting achievement?
Making the 2020 Olympic Team. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it turned my dream into reality.
3. How do you feel heading into the Tokyo Olympics?
It’s a mix of nerves, excitement, and gratitude. While bittersweet because some teammates didn’t make it, I’m hopeful for our boat’s performance.
4. What motivates you to push your limits?
My teammates and my future self. Training alongside such determined women pushes me daily, and I always want to make my future self proud.
5. How do you balance training and life outside rowing?
Training for the Olympics leaves little energy for much else, but I find balance in small things—dinners with friends, relaxing, or creative outlets like drawing.
6. What advice do you have for young rowers?
You’ll fail more than you succeed, and that’s okay. Rowing rewards consistency, patience, and effort. Stick with it, and the results will come.
7. If you weren’t a rower, what sport would you play?
I’d love to play professional soccer for the U.S. Women’s National Team. They’re incredible role models, and I’ve always loved the game.
8. Describe your perfect weekend.
During training—productive practices followed by rest. Ideally—sun, beach, ocean, friends, and a lazy Sunday brunch.
